SANTOS ~ NEW HOME

Thursday morning the air was crisp and the sun was shining.  Our team heads to the work site where we will build a home for a family of five.  Little 6-year-old Santos is the middle child, with an older sister and a baby brother. He is home with his parents and baby brother while his sister is at school when we arrive.  The concrete slab has been poured and posts put in all ready for us to finish the home.  No time is wasted as our team dives in and starts putting up the wood slats that will make up each side of the house.  The 12' by 18' home will be a real upgrade from what the family of five had been living in.  However, I don't think anyone was as excited as little Santos.  As we were finishing up, Santos grabbed a broom and started to sweep out his new home.  Then he proceeded to carry out all our tools and backpacks!  He was ready for us to be out so he and his family could move in!

MY NEW BED

This sweet lady is deaf-mute.  We went to visit her and saw what she was sleeping on.  Her bed was pallets on the dirt floor with blankets.  While she and her family were at the market selling wood kindling, our team purchased a bunk bed for her.  She had to have someone sleep with her, so a bunk bed was a perfect solution!  When she returned home she was very happy to see, not only a new bed but also a complete bedding set.  She offered the most beautiful prayer of thanksgiving!  Though no one could understand her, we know that God knew every word this dear woman spoke.  And to God and God alone be the glory!

NURSE NANCY

We were in Panajachel handing out Kids Against Hunger meals.  While there a local family asked if we had a nurse with us.  We did!  Nurse Nancy followed the family to see a young man with two toes missing from a severe burn on his leg.  His leg and foot were in terrible shape and using the first aid kit we had with us, Nurse Nancy provided some basic care for this man's wounds.  Later we went to a local pharmacy and purchased medication and proper dressing materials for this man.  He was more than grateful.  Thank you for your heart, Nurse Nancy!
